Biography
Prior to co-founding Mendes, Reins & Wilander, Carl R. Wilander litigated cases with a renowned national trial firm for over 10 years where he became a lead trial attorney and oversaw a variety of cases – including nursing home neglect, sexual abuse, medical malpractice and more – from intake through resolution, whether through settlement, arbitration, or trial, including over $40 million in verdicts.
Mr. Wilander received a Bachelor of Arts from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., where he played four years for the men’s soccer team and was a captain his senior year. For three years after college he split his time between guiding outdoor adventures out of Brevard, NC, and traveling the world to rock climb.
Thereafter, Mr. Wilander earned his juris doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California where he was a member of the mock trial and moot court teams. While in law school, he also gained valuable experience as a certified legal intern (allowing him to take part in trials) with the District Attorney Office in San Francisco under Kamala Harris. After law school, he served as an Assistant State Attorney under Mark Ober in Tampa, FL where managed a full case load and tried over 40 jury trials.
